What does an insurance broker actually do?

An honest look behind the scenes. From paperwork to claims: what we do all day.

The Short Answer

An insurance broker is your private CEO office for risk matters. As a broker, I do not sell insurance products; I procure and structure your insurance coverage. In concrete terms, this means: we analyze your life reality together, I filter the market for suitable solutions, administer your entire insurance folder, and organize and defend your interests in the event of a claim. Brokers do not work on behalf of an insurance company u2013 but legally and factually exclusively on your behalf.

What Brokers Are Not

Brokers are not insurance agents. Legally, an agent is the vicarious agent of a specific corporation and must sell its products. Brokers, on the other hand, stand by law on your side of the table as fiduciary-like trustees. We have access to almost the entire market with thousands of tariffs. The difference is not semantic, but legal: insurance brokers are obligated to act in your best interest. Among other things, we prove our value by actively advising you against products you do not need.

The Operational Reality (What happens in the background)

The daily work routine does not primarily consist of consultation meetings, but of active management of your system. The following aspects can be subdivided:

  • The Engine Room (Administration & Monitoring): Processing of daily correspondence with the companies, checking premium increases, verifying contract addenda, and monitoring cancellation deadlines. The goal is that this bureaucratic effort never even reaches your desk.

  • The Architecture (Analysis & Strategy): As a broker, I continuously scan the market, analyze new tariffs, and compare complex terms and conditions. In the actual consultation meetings, you will not be presented with loose advice, but with decision-making templates condensed to the essentials u2013 both for taking stock of new clients and for changed life situations of existing mandates.

  • The Shield (Claim and Benefit Management): When an event occurs, we shift from strategic planning to operational defense. I support you every step of the way: whether submitting claim reports, coordinating service providers and assessors, consulting with insurers... I am by your side.

The Invisible Work

You never see about 80% of my work u2013 and that is precisely where my service lies: the reduction of your mental load. I continuously monitor your contracts in the background: Are the sums insured still correct? Are there higher-performing tariffs on the market? Have terms and conditions changed? An excellent broker proves their value not on the day of signing, but through this continuous, quiet guidance over years.

Why This is Relevant to You

Without a broker by your side, you have to manage this complexity yourself. In reality, this often means: it gets left behind. We know that people carrying professional responsibility often simply do not have the time or cognitive capacity in their private life to deal with the fine print of insurance. This is completely normal. Delegation here is not a luxury, but sensible management. With me, you have someone who legally and structurally takes care of what you cannot manage on the side u2013 so that your mind remains clear for your actual life.
